Our Medicare Migration program helps plan sponsors identify retirees who should be enrolled in Medicare but have not yet made the transition, conduct a cost-benefit analysis, and guide them through the entire process. This approach reduces costs for the plan while ensuring a positive retiree experience.
One unique challenge our clients face is managing retirees who do not qualify for Medicare because they did not contribute to the program during their working years. While many public employees contribute to a pension system, those who did not pay into Social Security—such as certain teachers—are excluded from valuable federal Medicare subsidies. This creates financial burdens for retirees and limits potential cost savings for fund. In many cases, plan sponsors choose to pay the penalties required to enroll these retirees in Medicare because, despite the upfront cost, it results in significant long-term savings for the plan.

“Transitioning to Medicare is confusing and can be complicated for anyone. There is so much advertising on TV and through the mail with all the insurance companies competing for business. LaborFirst Advocates were extremely helpful to us in this transition. They took the time to speak with our retirees and answer all their questions and were very patient and professional throughout the whole process. LaborFirst has been a great ally for our team.”
